Technology Readiness Levels

We use the TRL framework, developed by NASA in the 1970s, to guide every project from early idea to market-ready product. At the start of any engagement, we assess where your technology sits on the TRL scale so we can focus our effort where it matters most.

TRL 1: Principles Identified

We explore the core science behind your idea, review existing research, and outline the foundational principles that shape the development path.

TRL 2: Concept Formulated

We test those principles through early experiments and simple proof-of-concept setups to check feasibility.

TRL 3: Concept Demonstrated

We move into preliminary designs and component-level prototypes, validating key functions and refining the concept.

TRL 4: Lab Validation

We build and test breadboard systems or early prototype components in a controlled environment, adding first considerations for manufacturability.

TRL 5: Integrated Subsystems

We integrate components into functional subsystems and test them in conditions that simulate real-world use.

TRL 6: System Prototype

We develop a full prototype and test it in an operational setting. The system now resembles the final product, with all subsystems working together.

TRL 7: Operational Demonstation

We run real-world demonstrations with users, refine the design based on feedback, and prepare for supplier engagement and pre-production.

TRL 8: System Complete

We finalise the design, complete full qualification testing, and deliver a production-ready system with all documentation in place.

TRL 9: Proven in Use

Your technology is in commercial operation. We support deployment, performance monitoring, and any final adjustments for long-term success.
